Creating a Course Content Area

A course content area serves as a top-level container for your course material to help provide organization and structure.

  1. Make sure that Edit Mode is ON and mouse over the symbol from the Course Menu on the left to add a new Content Area.

  1. In the Add Content Area window, type the Name of your content area.  You can make the content area available to students by placing a checkmark next to Available to Users.  Click Submit when finished.

The newly-created content area is an empty container that acts as a placeholder for your course content.  When you click the content area from the Course Menu, you'll be able to add content to it by using the appropriate commands from the Action Bar (Build Content, Assessments, Tools, etc.).

You can organize your content areas however you wish, but some common approaches are to have them organized by sequence (unit 1, unit 2, unit 3), content type (lecture, discussion, reading, etc.), or subject area.
